Staying Safe Around Construction Equipment

3 Signs That Your Industrial Air Compressor Needs Service

On your average work day, you should be able to maintain your air compressor on your own. Simple things like cleaning out the filter, changing the oil, and emptying out the water are pretty easy to do at the shop. However, there will probably be times when your air compressor needs professional service. Having your air compressor serviced when needed can help prevent even more serious and even more costly repairs from being needed in the future, so make sure that you call a service that you can trust if any of these things happen.

1. Water Has Been Sitting in the Tank

The water in your air compressor tank needs to be dumped out on a daily basis. Although it might not be a big deal if it gets left in there for a few days, there's a good chance that there is rust in the tank of the air compressor if water has been left in it for an extended period of time. This rust can cause the tank to break down and can contaminate the water, causing all sorts of issues. A pro will be able to clean out the rust or otherwise tell you how to proceed. Then, you can even ask to have a valve installed that will actually drain the water in your tank automatically, which will help prevent this issue from happening again.

2. Your Water Lines Are Clogged

If you can't seem to get all of the water out of the lines, you could be wondering what to do next. You can try cleaning out the water trap; you could also replace it, since they're affordable and relatively easy to change. If this does not do the job, then you might have to replace the air dryer. This is a longer and more involved process, however, so it's something that you'll want to leave up to a pro.

There are a lot of things that can cause this problem, so it might not be as serious as you think. However, it's possible that you could suffer from shock from trying to fix the problem yourself, so you'll want to let a pro take charge.
